Human Hibernation
In this work the middle-aged man is in focus. The pictures are circling around themes like family, social status, classic male roles, money, work and sex.
Within these themes the man is held in a passive position or a state of hibernation.
One of the primary male uniforms is the suite - used at work, at parties, and by authorities. In the pictures the suites are placed in unusual settings: at empty spaces, abandoned parks, near gritty harbours or railroad-tracks to make a clear contrast and lonely feeling. Like old Christian saints the male is in some of the images portrayed with a symbolic attribute that gives it all a tragicomic feeling.
The male is from a historical point of view capable of acting. In ”Human Hibernation” he stands still, motionless with an almost empty facial expression in the middle of the falling darkness, caught by the lights of a car.
